weekend haps

How was your weekend?!
Pipo & I had planned to go down to Laguna Beach this weekend with the fam, but our mini vacay was postponed. So, I took Friday off anyway and we enjoyed a nice, long 3-day with another one to come next weekend!

We went up to LA for lunch on Friday and to pick up our new dresser & a few other finds at our favorite store, CB2.

Matchbox Low Dresser
I am so excited! I love this dresser & it makes a huge difference in our bedroom. I'll be posting some photos of our MBR progress later this week.

Wire 9 Cube Wall Shelf
For the dining room to display various ceramics.

Beam Mug
I love the square handle of these mugs & the bright sunshine yellow.

Pillar Wine

Flatiron Creamer
I love the unique design of this creamer & had to have one (even if I don't drink coffee). Might be perfect for display in the Cube Shelf, no?

The highlight for me was an evening bike ride to our favorite french cafe and a Ruby's peanut butter cup shake before riding home in the dark.

One of Betty's many afternoon naps.

Missy Foo trying out the bar stools.

Delicious!

entry

Welcome!
Before...
Progress...
The CB2 Smart Console Table was the perfect fit for this tight space with only 10" in depth.

Banquet's Arctic Animals Poster is a very "us" first impression into our home & I just love it.

One of my biggest challenges (outside of area rugs) has been finding a replacement fixture for the entry. I've been searching & searching, but haven't found the right thing yet.

Now for the dining room....

Day 1 - close of escrow!

Day 5 - painting complete

Chandelier change out to the West Elm Glass Link Chandelier (eee!)

Our table & chairs were moved in along with our china cabinet. The table is an antique that my mom bought at an auction when she was pregnant with me. It's old & weathered, but I can't bear to part with it. The china cabinet was the first piece of furniture that Pipo & I bought after we were married. The fit is a bit awkward, but we're trying to make it work.

In order to lighten up the room some, we traded out the black wooden chairs for the fabulous Ghost Chairs (love).

For art, we fell in love with this "Cloud Forest" photo by Alicia Fox, which was taken in the Andes of Ecuador. It hangs next to my two beloved Agnes Martin prints.

We also hung our large mirror on the wall directly across from the window to help reflect the light. I'm thinking of painting the frame, but am undecided on the color. Any ideas?

It's coming along, but still needs some work. Next on the list is finding a rug that will work & adding some color. I also think the chandelier needs to be lowered and am working on convincing Pipo of the same thing. That beaut wasn't so easy to install.

kit

Here's a peek at the progression of our kitchen. Luckily, we started with a great shell of white cabinets, counters, and appliances. This was one of my favorite things about the house when we first looked at it.

Day 1 - close of escrow!

Since the kitchen is basically one wall of a large room that makes up both the living room & the kitchen, we knew that an island would be necessary in order to add some division to the rooms. One of the first things we purchased was the Stenstorp Island from Ikea. It was a great buy at $379 and met all of our requirements with a nice look, a place for counter stools, a sturdy work surface, and storage space.

Next we added the Navy Style Counter Stools, which I love & are a nice size & fit for the island, and some decor.

The island has stainless lined shelving, providing lots of extra storage space. I found these baskets at Cost Plus with the idea that they would add some color and be a great place for storing fruits, vegetables, bread, etc.

But, the girls had a different idea for the baskets & have claimed each and every one as afternoon napping spots.

And so the food remains in the pantry & the baskets are now the property of Missy Foo & Betty.

Remember this fork & spoon that we had at the end of the hallway in our condo? Well, they have a new look & now reside in the kitchen.

Just a little bit of yellow spray paint did the trick.

These geisha plates used to be on display in the dining room of our condo.

And now they're above the cabinets along with a few other accent plates from Cost Plus to add color. I hung them with invisible plate hangers, which are my new favorite thing. I have to hold myself back from hanging plates all over the house.

So, that's it, our kitchen!

We've been in our new house for 2 months now & have made slow progress in each room. The living room is getting closer to completion....

Day 1 - close of escrow!

Day 3 - painting begins

Benjamin Moore Classic Grey color-matched with Olympic Zero VOC paint

Old sofa & coffee table with Ikea Hulda Vilse Rug

New sofa, inspired by Gus Modern's Jane Bisectional, & CB2 Big Dipper Arc Lamp

Addition of Tulip Chairs(!), Ikea Merete Grommet Curtains, West Elm Metal Cylinder Rods, and Mod Diva Pillow Covers

Coffee table swtich-out to CB2 Smart Round Marble Coffee Table and art on the walls

I'm still searching for the perfect 8 x 10 rug to bring the space together. But, for now, we're happy with the progress.

George: A few times in my life I've had moments of absolute clarity, when for a few brief seconds the silence drowns out the noise and I can feel rather than think, and things seem so sharp and the world seems so fresh. I can never make these moments last. I cling to them, but like everything, they fade. I have lived my life on these moments. They pull me back to the present, and I realize that everything is exactly the way it was meant to be.

From mid century modern design and exquisite styling, the entire film was a visual delight wound together with substance and a moving story.
Two thumbs up!
