A Letter from Home

She sends me news of blue jays, frost,
Of stars and now the harvest moon
That rides above the stricken hills.
Lightly, she speaks of cold, of pain,
And lists what is already lost.
Here where my life seems hard and slow,
I read of glowing melons piled
Beside the door, and baskets filled
With fennel, rosemary and dill,
While all she could not gather in
Or hid in leaves, grow black and falls.
Here where my life seems hard and strange,
I read her wild excitement when
Stars climb, frost comes, and blue jays sing.
The broken year will make no change
Upon her wise and whirling heart;
She knows how people always plan
To live their lives, and never do.
She will not tell me if she cries.

I touch the crosses by her name;
I fold the pages as I rise,
And tip the envelope, from which
Drift scraps of borage, woodbine, rue.

weekend haps

My good friend Jeannie invited me to the Pasadena Heritage Spring Home Tour this weekend & it was fabulous! The tour featured homes by the modern architects, Buff & Hensman.

Our favorites were the Bea House, built in 1957 by Buff, Straub and Hensman (above) and the Thompson/Moseley House built in 1959 by Buff, Straub and Hensman (below).

I also spent the weekend finishing up a calligraphy project for a destination wedding in Cabo. The font was Hallmark Script and the envelopes were long and rectangular, which gave me so much space!

We're in the process of putting our condo on the market and the pre-MLS marketing sign went up yesterday, which was kind of sad. If it sells, I will really miss our little place, but I'm also excited for the next chapter.

We saw Un Prophete last weekend and it was quite good.  Malik, the complex main character, along with other criminal-types, keep you engaged as the plot unravels in typical French fashion, brilliantly and without any rush.

My good friend AR recently rescued pretty Sadie-Blue from the tough streets of skid row. As you can see, she's loving her new life!

These photos were taken by a professional photographer who selected her for a dog food ad. Can you say Super Model?! Such a happy pup.
