earth-friendly fun

As an avid supporter of reusable bags, I was so excited to discover these eco-friendly vintage-inspired totes from Friendly Matter.
Made from 100% natural cotton canvas with so many fabulous vintage label designs to chose from. At $14.95 a pop, you can't go wrong.

Also from the same maker, is the adorable Rabbit Kinney line.
Offering organic clothing for women, children, and babies along with other fun eco-friendly goodies.

My favorites are the eco-plush animals, made from 100% soy bean fiber and 100% kapok stuffing (a sustainable rainforest crop).

P.S. KCRW supporters receive an additional 10% off.

homeland

via ozzie

I'm off to Arkansas this week, the place of my birth, to visit my Mamaw.
We moved to Southern California when I was 4, but I spent every summer in Arkansas on my grandparents' farm. My roots are in Arkansas, on that farm and with my Mamaw.

We will be there again later this summer with the rest of the family, but this is a solo trip.
Just Mamaw and me.

A trip (or two) to my favorite shop, Masons, is on the agenda (last year's trip was so much fun).
Along with lots of quality time together.

Now to figure out what to pack...

shopper's delight

I spent Saturday afternoon at the mall and it was absolutely delightful.
There are few things I enjoy more than strolling around the mall by myself, touching all of the pretty things, staring through the windows of Chanel & Dior, and trying on as many dresses, tops, jackets, jeans, and shoes as I want.
Items I found and love for spring....

Jeffrey Campbell Lattice Heel

I cleaned out my closet today in preparation for lots of fantastic spring additions.

amour LXI

for rachel by clumsy bird

LXI
by Pablo Neruda

Love dragged its tail of pain,
its train of static thorns behind it,
and we closed our eyes so that nothing,
so that no wound could divide us.

This crying, it's not your eyes' fault;
your hands didn't plunge that sword;
your feet didn't seek this path;
this somber honey found its own way to your heart.

When love like a huge wave
carried us, crashed us against the boulder,
it milled us to a single flour;

this sorrow fell into another, sweeter, face:
so in an open season of the light
this wounded springtime was blessed.

amour LIV

more reasons by clumsy bird

LIV
by Pablo Neruda

Luminous mind, bright devil
of absolute clusterings, of the upright noon -
here we are at last, alone, without loneliness,
far from the savage city's delirium.

Just as a pure line describes the dove's curve,
as the fire honors and nourishes peace,
so you and I made this heavenly outcome.
The mind and love live naked in this house.

Furious dreams, rivers of bitter certainty,
decisions harder than the dreams of a hammer
flowed into the lovers' double cup,

until those twins were lifted into balance
on the scale: the mind and love, like two wings.
- So this transparency was built.

At the top of my favorites list. Xo.

threads

"By the end of this project, I wanted to be able to write a love letter to anyone, a stranger on the street, or someone that I have nothing but scorn for. I wanted to be able to pull out and vocalize the small thread connecting me to them, them to me, the something in them that I found beautiful or real and the something between us that existed beneath everything, acknowledged or unacknowledged, forgotten gestures and moments, strange and rare affinities. In the same way that part of art school training is training your eye to take in and process the world around you, to stop and notice things, to learn how to really see, I wanted to train my heart to really feel."

amour 22

square trees by clumsy bird

22
by Emily Dickinson

I gave myself to him,
And took himself for pay.
The solemn contract of a life
Was ratified this way

The value might disappoint,
Myself a poorer prove
Than this my purchaser suspect,
The daily own of Love

Depreciates the sight;
But, 'til the merchant buy,
Still fabled, in the isles of spice
The subtle cargoes lie.

At least, 'tis mutual risk,-
Some found it mutual gain;
Sweet debt of Life, - each night to owe,
Insolvent, every noon.

Peek-a-boo, I love you.

This piece is not the best from the collection, but I instantly loved it (I am also pretending the feathers are faux).

And last, but certainly not least...
Glorious Dior

darling lottie

Letter (message): A letter is a written message from one person to another. Letters, especially a regular exchange between two persons, represent a kind of humanly communication and mutual friendship. - Wikipedia

At My Room

Darling Lottie,

I have just come to my room, and found in it the nicest flower possible. I can not tell you how glad I am to have it and how much I am thankful to you for it. Its spotless whiteness typifies innocence, while the green leaf is typical of immortality and perpetually renewed beauty.

Thank you, darling.
I'll have plenty of time to call this evening and was preparing to come see you.

Ever True,
Willie

Dear Sidney,

Yes, lovely - can it be somewhere on the river? I want oysters and champagne and roast beef, if obtainable; if not, a chicken will do. I am very happy that Izzy's sales are good. Are they good enough that I don't have to pack a bag and leave London?
Since you and S&S have turned me into a moderately successful author, dinner must be my treat.

Love,
Juliet

P.S. I did not throw "The Sheperd Boy Sings in the Valley of Humiliation" at the audience. I threw it at the elocution mistress. I meant to cast it at her feet, but I missed.
