hostess bouquet

My version of a DIY hostess gift winter flower arrangement, via Little House Blog.
We went to several Christmas parties this weekend & a winter flower arrangement was the perfect hostess gift (& so economical). I had a collection of clear vases stashed away in a cabinet, so the only cost was the flowers. I picked them up at Trader Joe's, bringing the total cost per arrangement to approximately $8.

Missy Foo & Betty approved.

Quite fantastic, no? If you think the exterior & sunshine yellow door are great, checkout the inside here. Die.

trees

First, for the good news, the white tree arrived & I like it!
But, the red tree is officially the biggest disappointment of the season and went straight back to Target.
This pathetic little tinsel tree did not even come close to fulfilling my red tree dream. Maybe next year...

ar-kansas

Without further ado, I give you another fun-filled trip to Arkansas to visit Mamaw...

The leaves were gorgeous & the air was crisp. We spent much of the time oohing and ahhing over all of the beautiful Fall colors.

I stayed at Mamaw's while my bro & fam stayed at a hotel nearby.

We ate chocolate before bed and & wished each other goodnight.

We shopped at Masons, our tradition & my favorite place.

And enjoyed every minute of it. I brought home several treasures, including a red Splendid 1 x 1 cardigan, a grey BB Dakota Miner Jacket, and a fabulous grey zipper clutch. Tres bien!

We wore our Razorback red & called the Hogs. The Razorbacks beat UTEP 58 to 21.

We made our spaghetti and treated each other to books. I picked Margaret Atwood's latest. We saw Marlon Blackwell's Keenan TowerHouse, shopped for antiques, laughed a lot, and cried when we had to say goodbye.

For Once, Then, Something
by Robert Frost

Others taunt me for having knelt at well-curbs
Always wrong to the light, so never seeing
Deeper down in the well than where the water
Gives me back in a shining surface picture
Me myself in the summer heaven godlike
Looking out of a wreath of fern and cloud puffs.
Once, when trying with chin against well-curb,
I discerned, as I thought, beyond the picture,
Through the picture, a something white, uncertain,
Something more of the depths - and then I lost it.
Water came to rebuke the too clear water.
One drop fell from a fern, and lo, a ripple
Shook whatever it was lay there at bottom,
Blurred it, blotted it out. What was that whiteness?
Truth? A pebble of quartz? For once, then, something.

Merci, Mamaw. Merci.

glossy gloss

I love these sets! Lucky for me, I just received the Sassy Coral Lassies' Lipglass Set from my good friend Jenny. I'm so excited!!

christmas is coming

As a kid, whenever I would ask for something during the year, my mom would usually reply with, "Christmas is coming". Which meant that everything I asked for from about July on, had to wait for Christmas. And, inevitably, by the time Christmas rolled around, I had forgotten what I had asked for in the months prior.

Now that December is here, and I am finding all sorts of treasures that I would like to add to my closet/jewelry box/home, I hear those 3 words repeated over & over in my head as I attempt to practice some form of self control.

Here are some finds that have tempted me so & I've either been successful or unsuccessful at resisting.

Unsuccessful!
Vintage Courreges Paris Fine Whale Corduroy Skirt - Ikhan Vintage
Completely impossible to resist, I would have eaten Top Ramen for the rest of my life to be able to bring this one home. I died when it arrived & saw that it is even more beautiful in person.

Successful (so far)!
Cross Stitch Sweater Cardigan - F21
It's living in my shopping cart, but I have not taken the plunge yet. I just love the shawl collar and cross stitch design.

So unique and dainty, I'm adding this one to my list for Santa.

Successful!
Traveler Necklace - Japonicas
This fantastic pendant, along with everything Japonicas, has been added to my list.

Successful (sad face)
24K Gold Encased Geode Long Necklace - Iris Jewelry Design
I LOVE this necklace! It only doesn't belong to me (yet) because I can't justify the splurge.

How cool are these?! We don't have any room in our home for them, but I wish we did. They remind me of you, Megan.

And, remember, Christmas is coming!
