botero
This was my favorite painting from the Bowers Museum exhibit, The Baroque World of Fernando Botero. Although his work doesn't exactly speak to my soul, I found a new appreciation for Botero's vision and perspective through this exhibit.
"Using a broad range of media, the Colombian-born Botero has created a world of his own, one that is at once accessible and enigmatic." - Bowers website

placeholder
I turned in my M by MJ Faridah Hobo today (sniff, sniff), but failed to find its permanent replacement. After hours of online research and several hours spent trying on bag after bag at Nordies, my perfect friend has yet to be found.
But, I did succeed in finding a perfectly suitable placeholder until "the one" comes along. This adorable JPK satchel is adorned with a heavy gold tag, which reads, "Distinctive styling. Born in France. Handcrafted in the East. Travels well in faraway places. A faithful companion to have always." Exactly what I was looking for. She comes in a variety of different colors, I opted for the slate blue.
I think she's perfect, even though the sales woman who was trying to sell me the $2,000 YSL bag said she looks like a lunch tote. Maybe, but a delicious one at that.

steals and deals....nordies
Remember this big Marc by MJ purchase for my 29th last year?Marc by Marc Jacobs Totally Turnlock Faridah
Well, he's turned out to be a very reliable friend to have at my side and I do love him so. But, sadly, he has been looking a bit bedraggled lately with loose threads, discoloration, and in need of a good polish. So, I took him over to my friendly neighborhood Nordstrom for some advice on how to get him looking back to his best. What I found was not only excellent customer service, but the deal of a lifetime.
Apparently MJ does not repair bags as most other designers do, so Nordies offers a completely new bag at the same value as the original purchase price instead. That's right, I can turn in my bag that I have used for the last year and a half and walk away with a brand spanking new bag from any designer that they carry! Kind of unbelievable, right?
I was virtually in shock after learning about this fantastic opportunity, and wasn't prepared at all to pick-out something new right then. A purchase like this takes a lot of thought (even if it is free) and I will have to say my proper goodbyes to my old friend as the search for a new one begins....Marc by MJ Classic Q Aidan Satchel

barbed wire and bedclothes
via Africa Imports
Confessions of the Oak Tree
by Alice Pettway
I would shed my leaves in an instant,
if I could shake their delicate skeletons
off my frame, those brittle reminders
of last season's small failures.
I want to be bare and unencumbered.
Strip me naked; my rough bark
no longer shames me the way it used to.
Leave smooth skin to the saplings,
tender and thin, yet to survive
the droughts and floods I have weathered.
Sheath me in gnarled knobs and dimples,
a woody armor thick enough
to protect the sap I used to spill
at the peck of every careless bird.
A small peek into Alice's superb chapbook,
Barbed Wire and Bedclothes.
Bravo!

red prize
Since purchasing my prized black patent pair of Joan & David Flipp Platforms earlier this year, I've become a HUGE fan of J & D. The Flipps are a high-quality, magnificent treasure and well worth the price tag. I can't help but ooh and aah over them every time I take them out of their box. Which is why my heart skipped a beat when I found this fantastic marbled red version. I had to have them immediately.
They certainly don't make 'em like this anymore.
