so bazaar

Inspiration from Harper's Bazaar, May issue.

for the love of drama

Domino Magazine's May issue features the fabulous designs of Josephine Sasso, fashion designer and decorator.
The colors are crisp and bright & there is no shortage of drama. She uses high contrast colors and bold patterns. The color combinations are magnificent!
This design style fits me perfectly.

may day wishes

image from here

May 1st signifies a fresh start to the clothes budget - yippee!
I have a bad habit of spending all of my shopping money at the beginning of the month & then feel desperate and depressed at the end of each month when I can't (or shouldn't) buy anything for weeks.
But, May is almost here & life will be good again.

busy, busy bee

New Lulu and the Bee logo!
I worked on calligraphy stuff all weekend, including finishing up addressing 100 invitation envelopes for a wedding in July.
I created the flyers below for Adriana to post at the fabulous Hoot & Heart flower shops in L.A.
Thanks so much AR!

the darjeeling unlimited

The Darjeeling Limited is full of unlimited quirk and heartwarming fun.
I loved this film!
Three brothers travel across India in search of themselves, a connection to each other, finding their mother again, and closure for the death of their father.
A great story with many charming moments and beautiful scenery and colors.
Plus, Adrien Brody is totally hot in a head scarf.

After a Death
by Alice Pettway

She keeps a ruler by her bed
and measures her navel each morning.
afraid it will eat through her soft belly,
hollowing her out, caving her torso
into the widening hole.
She stops it up with gauze,
and hides it beneath her blouse,
but still stands far from the edges of rooms
to keep the wallpaper from showing through her.

i heart art....ruth

This week's I Heart Art is by my grandmother, the lovely and wise Ruth.
She has chosen the ever inspiring Impressionist painter, Claude Monet.

I enjoy the Impressionists in general, Monet in particular.
His Sunflower paintings are bursting with life and color.

Thank you Mamaw (said with a southern drawl)!

I would love it if you (reader) would participate in I Heart Art! To find out how, click here.

70's bow ties

I've always loved the bow tie blouse look, if it's done right.
Loving btb's for spring & again for fall.

belle amitié

The most beautiful package arrived in the mail yesterday....

A gift from The UE!

"A little gift for that special day and a thank you for the years of beautiful friendship....

The wise owl, the drop of ocean water, the blue baubles of laughter (and the same shade of MJ's hair), a feather for the lightness of being....(in that non-cheese zen matter--think more Milan Kundera)."

A handmade necklace by The UE with help from beautiful Bella!

You know me so well. It's absolutely BEAUTIFUL and I will treasure it always, always.

Merci, mon bel ami!

Missy Foo loves it too!

"Intimate life [is] understood as one's personal secret, as something valuable, inviolable, the basis of one's originality." - Milan Kundera

fitting into a box

May's issue of InStyle was mildly entertaining, but I did like this section about Jeanotypes.
Check it out...

If I had to choose, I think I would fit into part Sophisticate and part Vintage Vanguard.

How about you?

wednesday, today

Today's outfit is so comfortable, so I thought I'd share.
