there will be applause

A brilliant film with an exceptional cast, There Will Be Blood makes my top ten list of all time. Daniel Day-Lewis' performance as Daniel Plainview, a complex, evil, and strangely likable oilman gives us a view into the extremely disturbing & prosperous world of greed, oil, and America at the turn-of-the-century. It is intensely dark & seething with struggles of morality, character, sanity, and lots & lots of thick black oil. Loosely based on Upton Sinclair's 1920's classic, Oil!, writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson does an extraordinary job with this odd & captivating tale.

Let's not forget about the successful representation of the early 20th century fashions as depicted by Daniel Plainview & his son, H.W., in suit and tie, and an appearance of class & respectability.

Highly recommended.

Best movie of 2008. Daniel Day Lewis not winning the best actor Oscar will K.O. whatever is left of the academy's credibility.
